Why would you consider a suppressor? Not only do they protect your ears over time by reducing noise, they also make for safer training, more accurate shooting and duller recoil.
Not like the movies
Unlike the “silencers” you see in movies, suppressors do not make gunfire silent. Sports World carries the most popular brands of suppressors in all sizes, designs and shapes, but the basic concept is the same: A series of barriers trap expanding gasses as the bullet travels down the barrel. Gasses are redirected and interrupted as they exit the gun’s barrel, resulting in a sound similar in intensity to a jackhammer instead of a gun blast (according to this Washington Post article). So the thought that a suppressor can somehow conceal gunfire is true only in Hollywood.
The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action has fought hard to keep suppressors legal in Oklahoma and several other states; though several state legislatures are considering measures to outlaw them.
